Donald Edward Bash, 72, of Elderton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Dixonville, a son of Jack Bash and Gladys (Conner) Trimble. Donald was a resident of the Elderton area for 29 years, previously living in Rural Valley and Cleveland, Ohio. He honorably served in the Navy and worked at Keystone Power Plant as a coal equipment operator, retiring in 1996 after 25 years of service. Donald was of the Lutheran faith. A true outdoorsman, hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes. He had a reputation for being such a good fisherman that others would follow him to his fishing spots. He was the ultimate sports fan and enjoyed following the Pittsburgh sports teams. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen L. (Greene) Bash, whom he married March 15, 1958; daughters, Susan R. Bash, of Ernest, and Carol A. Craig and husband, Doug, of South Bend Township; grandchildren, Joseph Craig and wife, Sarah, Peter Craig and wife, Kathleen, Cort McCurdy and Melissa McCurdy; and nieces and nephews, Bill Bash, Myron Bash and Linda Haught. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis E. Bash, who died April 2, 1982; grandson, Michael McCurdy; brother, Kenneth Bash; and one infant sister. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at CLARK CHAPEL OF THE BAUER FUNERAL HOME, 238 S. Main St., Elderton. Additional visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joyce Dix Weiers officiating. Burial will be in Harkleroad Cemetery, Rural Valley. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald's honor to the American Cancer Society, Armstrong Unit, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
