Eugene Frank Faulkner, 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital in Natrona Heights, Pa.
He was born Sept. 11, 1942, and was the youngest son of Frank A. and Lida I. (Klingensmith) Faulkner.
Gene had a rough start in life as he was born premature and of a low birth weight. Being in an incubator with oxygen and extra light, he developed Glaucoma and Retinopathy of Prematurity, which left him with Low Vision. His family had been told he would not live past 12 years which gave him a strong will to live and that served him well, especially this last year of his life.
Growing up, he lived in Rayburn Township, Troy Hill and North Buffalo Township. He was loving cared for and raised by his sisters after his parents passed away. Later, he resided in Ford City, with his sister, Louise, and her husband, George Faulx.
Gene was a special, congenial person who had many, many friends and acquaintances who never passed him by without greeting him and he would flash them a smile with full dimples. He was loved by his caregivers at each medical facility for his gentle personality.
He loved Jeeps, especially blue ones. Louise worked at Bish Motors, a Jeep dealership and Gene accompanied her to work there. He loved classic Country Music and enjoyed the times they went to local jamborees at Paradise Park. When in the hospital, he would tap his hand to the tunes of Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, and others. Niagara Falls, Canada, was his favorite vacation spot. Gene and his nephew, Larry, shared a special bond and they visited together and talked on the phone all the time over the years.
Gene was a long-time member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Kittanning, and enjoyed attending church dinners there and in the neighboring communities. He had a strong faith.
He is survived by his sister, Frances (Boots) Peters, of South Carolina his step-nephew, Kenneth (Peanut) G. Faulx and wife, Carol, of Ford City, and their children, Dennis and Denise and their families; his niece, Wilma Lee (Arthur) Koeller and family, of South Carolina; his niece, Nancy (Ed) Holben and family, of Virginia; his nephew, Richard (Dick) (Dorothy) Faulkner and family, of Virginia; his nephew, Gary Faulkner, of Oregon; and his cousin, Wendy
Strouse Watt, OD (Mark), of Reynoldville, Pa., who attended to his needs.
