William R. Sacik

William R. Sacik, 85, of Ford City, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. He was born May 19, 1929, in Ford City, son of Ludmilla (Cermak) and John J. Sacik. He was an Army veteran and member of the former Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. He graduated in 1947 from Ford City High School. He was a member of Christ Prince of Peace Parish. He was employed at Shop No. 2 PPG in Ford City and retired from Ford City Borough. He was a member of the C.U. Club, Ford City Eagles and Polish Falcons. He was inducted into the Armstrong County Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and was honored for his athletic abilities in basketball, football, baseball, softball and bowling. He enjoyed watching all Pittsburgh sports teams and going to the Rivers Casino. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen (Volek); two daughters, Kim (Mitch) Schneider, of Brackenridge, and Sandra (Greg) Lorence, of Carlisle; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Charlie) Wineke, of Odenton, Md., and Allison (Steve) Schreckengost, of Natrona Heights; one great-grandson, Charlie Wineke; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Steven, John and Joseph; and sisters, Anna Remis, Mildred Kolakowski and Beatrice Frick. The family would like to thank the staffs of Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Armstrong County Health Center and Rivercliff Terrace Annex Personal Care Home for their care over the past five months. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity or association of donor's choice. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at MANTINI FUNERAL HOME INC. Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at MANTINI FUNERAL HOME INC. with Father Bryan Summers, officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis of Paola.
