Bradley Leiken Obituary

Brad Leiken of Ramsey, Ill., died on Monday, July 15, 2013, after a valiant battle with small intestine cancer, surrounded by family.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 26, at Ramsey Lake Golf Course Clubhouse in Ramsey, with the Rev. Norris Price officiating. Friends and family are invited to an open house from noon-2 p.m. prior to the service. Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey was in charge of arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.millerfh.net.
Brad is survived by his wife, Reneé (Paulson) Leiken and his four children: Brandon Leiken, Aric Ott, Christopher Leiken and RaeChelle Leiken. His is also survived by his parents, Pete and Glenda (Jemeyson) Leiken, all of Ramsey, as well as his brother, Sid Leiken of Springfield, Ore. Brad also had many nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Brad was a tremendous golfer, carrying his PGA certification in both teaching and course management. He fulfilled his lifetime dream of owning and managing a golf course with the purchase of Ramsey Lake Golf Club in 2009, with his parents. Brad, his parents, his wife and children all lived and worked his dream together. Brad had previously managed both Oak Hills Golf Club in Sutherlin and Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, Ore.
The Leiken family had owned and operated several business entities for many years in Roseburg, Ore., which included Leiken Construction Co., Glenda Leiken Realty and Prestige Cleaners.
Brad graduated from South Eugene High School in 1981 (attending school in Roseburg, Ore., as well). He obtained his bachelor's degree in economics from Oregon State University in 1986. Brad played on the OSU Golf Team and remained a strong Beaver believer for his entire life. He also obtained his accounting degree in 1987 from University of Texas at Arlington.
Brad's family was so important to him. He attended his children's sporting events and coached many of their teams. Brad's wife was his lifetime love and was an amazing caretaker for him in his final days. He had many fond memories of growing up on the ranch just outside of Roseburg. There were many stories of the early days that included animals and golf.
Brad will be remembered for his athletic prowess, his entrepreneurial spirit and as a friend to all he met. His quick wit, bigger than life stature and his red hair are fondly remembered by friends and family.

I still remember Brad very well. He was a very nice person. It is hard to believe it's been 6 years since his passing. The same year Brad died, another South Eugene Classmate Kathy Stanton died. Not sure of the cause of death. Brad is happily looking down from Heaven, knowing he is still remembered.

“May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.” My heart and prayers are with Renee and the kids. I know you will always make him proud.

He meant so much to so many.

Simply stated, this bigger than life character impacted us all in unique ways at different times of his life.

My measure of greatness - My measure of Brad - is his duration of impact on us all throughout his life is amazingly remarkable.

I am very deeply saddened and sorry to hear of Brad's passing. He was a nice person. Also a classmate of mine at South Eugene, class of 1981. My late father gave our commencement speech, Brad and many other of our classmates enjoyed it. Sadly Brad is the second classmate that we've lost in three months. I will miss Brad, and many things about him. He was a hard fighting soldier on the battle field. And when the battles over, he shall wear a crown. In the New Jerusalem.

I am held by your great laugh, your generous and boisterous laugh, all consuming, great abandon, inclusive, loving, infectious. I treasure every moment I got to spend with you, such a time in life that doesn't give 'do-overs', thank heavens; we'd all be stuck there trying to get it right. you did. I am so glad you were surrounded by such a great family and that you were in the grace of your faith. you will be so sorrowfully missed.
