Terry Duane Winters, 63, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at First Christian Church of Brownstown, with Mr. Duane Willms officiating. Interment will follow in Griffith Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Memorials: Brownstown First Responders. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. It is recommended that guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control and Illinois Department of Public Health as they relate to COVID-19 be followed. Terry Duane Winters was born on Dec. 4, 1957, in Chicago, the son of Gary Winters and Mary Louise Rhodes. He married Melinda Jo Garrison on Sept. 14, 1990, and together they celebrated 30 years of marriage.
Terry was employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections as a food supervisor, retiring from the Vandalia Correctional Center. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting "treasures" such as knives, guns, and arrowheads. He always managed to turn nothing into something, bartering the many collectibles he had. Though he enjoyed his hobbies, what he loved most was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Louise Eller; wife; daughter, Lindsey (Dustin) Pruett; son, Jared (Lexi) Winters; grandchildren, Gracie and Rylin Pruett, and Hudson Winters; brother, William "Art" Winters; sisters, Connie Gibson, Sandra Zinkgraf and Rebecca "Becky" Hayes; mother and father-in-law, Ervin and Joyce Garrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Paula Jones.
