EUGENE FRANCIS YOUNG Eugene Francis Young of Lansing passed away on Thursday, April 6 at age 94. Gene was born on July 26, 1928, the third of four boys born to Frank and Edith Young. Gene graduated from Lansing Rural High School in 1946. He married Ada Mondero on June 3, 1950. They raised four children, David (Wanda), Michael (Vickie), Ann (John Hoins), and Thomas (Teresa), in their home of 70 years in Lansing before moving to Homestead Assisted Living, Leavenworth, in March 2021. He lost Ada, his side-by-side partner, in August of 2022. Gene started working at age 16 at All Star Dairy in Kansas City. He retired as Production Manager in 1978 to start another new venture: Young Sign Co. in Leavenworth. He was proud to start a family business and always encouraged those who wanted to be an entrepreneur. Gene will be remembered for his volunteerism, his great artistic talent, and the love he shared for Lansing and the Leavenworth community. He was preceded in death by his parents, baby sister Elizabeth, brothers Thomas and Arthur, and his wife of 72 years, Ada. Gene is survived by his brother Bill, four children, their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many loving nephews, nieces, and cousins. The Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 14 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Lansing followed by visitation until 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 15 at the church with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
