JANET JESSEN JACKSON-KNIGHT Janet Jessen Jackson-Knight, 93, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away at home on July 10, 2024. She lived a life of family love, education and service to her faith. Born on December 1, 1930, to Edwin John Jessen and Anna Marie (Busse) Jessen, in Elmhurst, Ill., and grew up in State Center, Iowa, with her four younger siblings, James Jessen of Independence, Mo. (deceased), Maureen Awbrey of Louisville, Ky., Kathryn Moore of State Center, and Carolyn Brimmer of Waleska, Ga. Janet loved the Lord with all her heart and her life was a testimony of that love. Janet was baptized January 11, 1931, at Redeemer Evangelist Lutheran Church in Elmhurst. She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in State Center on April 15, 1943. Education became very important to Janet. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from University of Houston and taught in parochial and public schools 28 ½ years. Janet then served as a church secretary for 11 years and retired in 2002. Janet was married to Andrew William Komarchuk in 1951. Their marriage of 28 ½ years produced four daughters. Later in life, Janet married Leroy Jackson of Houston, Texas, and following his demise, eventually married E.M. Knight, also of Houston (also deceased). Janet cherished her daughters and their families. She loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by four daughters Naomi, Brenda, Barbara, and Darlene, 10 living (of 11) grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. A visitation celebrating her life is at St. Paul Lutheran Church on July 19, 2024, at 1 p.m. and Memorial Service following at 2 p.m. Pastor Ed Mease will officiate.
