LATISHA THOMAS Obituary

LATISHA MAY THOMAS Latisha May Thomas, 94, passed away at Hampton Manor at Deerwood Assisted Living in Ocala, Fla., on the morning of the second of October 2024. May was born on the ninth of July 1930, the fourth child of Joseph and Helen Berg of Easton, Kan. She leaves behind a loving family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to cherish her memory. May married the love of her life, James H. "Jim" Thomas, on June 26, 1949. A Leavenworth, Kan., resident for most of her life, May had many interests and passions for which she will be well-remembered. She was clothing chairman for Red Cross Disaster Committee, president of Jaycee Jaynes, PTA officer, played city recreation basketball and softball as well as managing teams for Cub Scout T-ball and Girl Scouts. She was a Girl Scout leader for Brownies through Cadettes, also serving on the Girl Scout Advisory Board, Camp committee and cookie chairman for the council. For these efforts she was awarded a lifetime membership to Girls Scouts of America. She was active in her church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, serving on the baptismal committee, and church treasurer. When the children became school age she worked in the family business, Thomas Oil Company, as office manager and bookkeeper until retirement. May and Jim were avid KU Jayhawk and Kansa City Chiefs fans and their children both graduated from KU. Staying active in retirement, she volunteered at Cushing Memorial Hospital in the medical/surgical family room and the gift shop. She was active in the auxiliary, serving as an officer and president and a lifetime member. She was an avid contract bridge player and played in one club for more than 60 years. She loved the Red Hat Mamas red hat group because it entailed little work - just eat and have fun. May is survived by her two children, James Harold Thomas (wife-Gail) of Ocala, Helen Kathleen Mreen of Lenexa, Kan.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Jim, her sister Robena, and her brothers, Zach, Bud, and George. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to American Red Cross or Alzheimer's Association. Celebration of Life visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. Please wear your most colorful outfits or Chiefs and Jayhawks gear, share stories, and celebrate what a beautiful life she lived.
