Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Robert F. Doby Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Robert F. Doby, 91, of Leavenworth, received his final wish to return home to his loving wife, Marge. Once home from the hospital and reunited with his family, he peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022. He was born Oct. 19, 1930 and was adopted at the age of three by Floyd and Amanda (Handrick) Doby. Robert grew up in the Heights area of Houston, Texas, and graduated from Reagan High School in Houston. He graduated from Texas A&M University and was a proud member of the Corps, which launched his career into the U.S. Army where he served our country for 28 years. Some of the highlights were three years in Germany, Ft. Hood, Texas, five years in Virginia, two tours in Vietnam and the Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., where he was first a student, then an instructor. After he retired, Robert owned and operated Browser's Corner in Leavenworth. He really enjoyed selling local artists and crafters supplies. Robert was a firm believer in "Do It Yourself". He completely renovated his family home with the help of his wife and children. Robert was very proud of his six children, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his children, Tillie Doby; and his granddaughter, Alicia Rainbolt. Robert is survived by his wife, Marge Grafke-Doby; his six children, Nikki Rainbolt, Robert F. Doby, Jr., Cinde Barbeau, Troy Doby (Kathy), Kyle Doby (Karen) and Melissa Hearn (Jon). He is respected for his service and duty to our country and his leadership and duty to his family. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Leavenworth Mission Inc., or First Presbyterian Church of Leavenworth.
