Edward Hays Obituary

Edward D. Hays, 68, Danville, died Saturday, April 9, 2016.
He was born on January 9, 1948 in Lebanon. He was the son of the late Maurice and Susan Glazebrook Hays. Hays was a University of Kentucky graduate who clerked for Circuit Judge Henry Pennington during his last year of law school. He was both a partner at Sheehan, Barnett, and Hays Law Firm as well as legal counsel to the City of Danville for over 30 years before working as an Administrative Law Judge over worker's compensation claims in Frankfort. He has had an illustrious career and was an accomplished attorney, so many of his colleagues have spoken highly of him…from other attorneys to paralegals, and all those who knew him. Beyond the courtroom, he loved sports including basketball, racquetball, and tennis. He also enjoyed going to Keeneland, dancing, and singing, and enjoying life.
Survivors include: his wife, Pat Hilpp Hays; a son, Ben (Blake) Hays of Charleston, South Caroline; a daughter, Julie Hays (John) Gragg of Louisville; two sisters, Lynda (Clyde) Tharp of Shelbyville and Janet (Kenn) Johnson of Mt. Sterling; three grandchildren, Ellie Hays, Addison and Kennedy Gragg; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at held 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the Community Arts Center with Rev. Tommy Valentine officiating. Visitation will be after 4 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
