Alger Mullins Obituary

Alger "Al" B. Mullins April 16, 1951- November 6, 2004 COLUMBUS, GA Mr. Alger "Al" B. Mullins, 53, of Columbus, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at McMullen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lewis Greer officiating. Burial will be at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, Ga. Mr. Mullins was born April 16, 1951 in Hazard, Ky., to the late James and Nova Sloan Mullins. He retired with 22 years service in the U.S. Army, where he retired as a S.F.C. Mr. Mullins was very active in the community. He loved to hunt, fish, and play golf. He competed for the United States Shooting Team and the U.S. Army Marksmanship unit for 14 years. He competed at the Pan American Games where he won the silver medal, also competing several times at the World Champions. He was a World Class International Skeet Shooter during this time. Most recently, he was a sales representative for John Deere/Metrac. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Erika Mullins of Columbus; daughter Sandra Hickey and husband Byron of Columbus; sons Harold Mullins and wife Heather of Lexington, Ky., and James Mullins and wife Melissa of Phoenix, Ariz; brothers James Mullins and wife Ernie of Indianapolis, Ind., Selton Mullins and wife Janet of Purcell, Okla., Mass Mullins and wife Geraldine of Indianapolis Ind., and Harry Mullins and wife Columbia of McDowell, Ky.; grandchildren, Nico and Noah Hickey of Columbus, Taylor and Ethan Mullins of Lexington, Ky., and Caitlin Mullins of Phoenix, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 1300-108 Wynnton Rd, Columbus, Ga., 31906.
