Gulfport, MS- Retired Senior Master Sergeant Alvin Hardaway of Gulfport, MS departed this life, Friday, February 26, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. Funeral services will be 1:00PM Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Prospect AME Church, 77 Goatrock Road, Fortson, GA with the Pastor Rev. Willie J. Barber officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at the church cemetery according to Hill-Watson-People's Funeral Service LLC, 1605 3rd Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901. Visitation will be today, Friday, March 4, 2016 from 5:00PM-7:00PM at the funeral home. Alvin was born on November 30, 1948 in Columbus, GA to the late Clarence and Geneva Hardaway. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Prospect AME Church in Fortson, GA. Alvin enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired after 39 years of service of active and reserve duty. Alvin was preceded in death by both of his parents; one sister, Joann Walker; two brothers, Robert Hardaway and Joe Allen. Alvin will be dearly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Beverly Hardaway of Gulfport, MS; three sons, Dexter Ash, Columbus, GA, Anthony Hardaway, West Linn, Oregon, Demetrius Hardaway, Killeen, TX; and one daughter, Cindy Rutledge, Jonesboro, GA; five grandchildren, Bryan Rutledge and Gregory Rutledge, Jonesboro, GA, Cindreka Ash and Destiny Ash, Columbus, GA, and Payson Hardaway, Gulfport, MS; four great grandchildren, NaYani Rutledge, Kennahdi Rutledge, Gregory Rutledge and Lyric Rutledge, Jonesboro, GA; four brothers, Willie Allen, Miami, FL, Willie Hardaway, Larry Hardaway, and Charles Hardaway, Fortson, GA; one sister, Brenda (Edward) Mullins, Fortson, GA; three sister-in-law's, Annette Hardaway, Fortson, GA, Monica Osborne, London England and Carmen Clarke, NY; one brother-in-law, Tony Francis, London England; two aunts, Martha Pearson and Ethel Pearson, Ft Walton Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
