Andrew Curry Obituary

Andrew Jackson "Jack" Curry, Jr.

May 19, 1943 - September 26, 2023

Athens, Georgia - Andrew Jackson Curry, Jr., age 80, died on September 26, 2023 at his home in Athens, Georgia, surrounded by his immediate family.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Kay Sherrod Curry, and by his parents, Andrew Jackson Curry, Sr. and Eula Key Curry. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly Curry Hall (Chris Hall) and grand-dog Mavis of Washington, DC and his sister-in-law Billie Sherrod (Joe Savage) of Atlanta, GA.

Jack was born and raised in Columbus, GA and graduated from Jordan Vocational High School. He was a "Double Dawg", earning both bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Georgia's School of Journalism, where he was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. Jack and Kay married in March 1966, a lifelong partnership sparked by a first date at the Georgia v. Auburn football game in the fall of 1964.

Jack served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1966-1972 and held various positions in the public relations field including at the Tennessee Valley Authority and at Clemson University.

In 1975 Jack and Kay moved to Timonium, Maryland, where Jack worked as the Assistant Vice President of Corporate Communications for Farm Credit Banks of Baltimore. In 1985 he formed his own company, Curry Communications Group, serving clients with marketing and corporate communications needs for nearly 20 years. Sparked by his interest in shooting sports, Jack later took a position as regional sales manager for Caesar Guerini / FABARM USA.

Jack and Kay retired to Athens, GA in 2010 where they were devoted Georgia football fans together. Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed a number of activities (some a little on the wild side) including riding motorcycles and driving fast cars, shooting sporting clays, hang-gliding, fishing, boating on the Chesapeake Bay (despite not being able to swim), and later, simply enjoying a few Stella Artois on his porch.

Jack will be remembered for his intelligence, sharp sense of humor, generosity, desire to live in the moment, and his unwavering and unparalleled devotion to Kay and Kim. And, as he would always sign off, Go Dawgs!

A celebration of Jack's life will be held at a later time in Athens, GA. Details forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jack's memory to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia Jack Curry Memorial Fund, 2450 S. Milledge Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30605, online at https://botgarden.uga.edu/support/donations-gifts-memorials/
