Phenix City, Alabama- RET/WO1 Austin Sumbry III, of Phenix City passed away peacefully at the blessed age of 94. His demise was Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Bill Nichols Veterans Home in Alexander City, Alabama.
Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, Aprill 6, 2013 at Sconiers Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. William Jamison will officiate . Interment will be 10 AM Monday, April 8, 2013 at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA.
Mr. Sumbry was born June 20, 1918 in Russell County, AL. He was the son of Austin Sumbry Jr. and Mary Lou Francis Jackson Sumbry. Mr. Sumbry was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL. He attended the Bridge Church in Opelika, AL. Mr. Sumbry attended Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, AL. He was a Brickmason as well as a member of the Prince Hall Masons.
He retired from the U. S. Army as a Warrant Officer1.
He proudly served his country in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include a daughter, Hattie (Rev. Eddie) James of Phenix City, AL, a son in law, Laroy Lewis of Columbus, three brothers, Roosevelt Sumbry of Gary, IN, Arthur (Jessie) Sumbry Sr. and Austin (Catherine) Sumbry IV, of Phenix City, AL; three sisters, Nancy Dilworth of Virginia, Francis (Sammie) Sims, and Evelyn (J.K.) Stovall of Illinois, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a host of loving relatives and friends.

Hattie, Pastor Eddie and Sumbry Family:
We were delighted that we were able to be a part of Mr. Austin's Celebration of Life and His Homegoing. To God be the Glory for truly another Christian Solider has gone home.
