Columbus, GA- Funeral service and internment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery, Chapel of The Pines Mausoleum, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, at 2 P.M. on Thursday, December 27, with full Military Honors with Reverend Jim Hilderbrand officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, December 26 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Retired Army MSGT Claudie J. Parker, 77, of Columbus, Ga., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. MSG Parker was born May 24, 1935 in Cullman, AL. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1980, as a Master Sgt, Fort Benning, GA. with 24 years of military service, having served 2-tours Vietnam, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Fort Campbell, KY, Germany, and Fort Benning, GA.
He was awarded numerous awards and decorations, the most notable being the Purple Heart, earned while serving in Vietnam. Two Bronze Star Medals (2 Oak Leaf Clusters); Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Expert Qualification Badge (M-16); National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Air Medal; Senior Parachutist Badge; Four Overseas Service Bar; Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal (5th Award); Army Commendation Medal; Army Occupation Medal.
Upon retirement, MSGT Parker began a second career—he owned and operated a small fleet of trucks. To his family, he left behind a legacy built on integrity, loyalty, and love.
He was preceded in death by father, Monroe C. Parker, mother, Myrtle Parker, brother, Buddy Parker, son, Mark Parker, and granddaughter, Dina Beesley.
MSGT Parker is survived by his loving wife of 60 years with a love lasting for an eternity, Dot L. Parker of Columbus, GA; daughter, Diane Parker-Beesley and son in-law, Rick Beesley, Niceville, FL; his son, Scott Parker and daughter-in-law, Tracey Parker, Sugar Hill, GA; daughter in-law, Charline Parker Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Nicole Parker, Austin Parker, Eli Parker, and Cameron Parker. Sisters, Ruth Parker and Rachel Parker; and brothers, William D. Parker, Curtis Parker, Gerald Parker, and Donald Ray Parker.
