My son and I just learned of Dr. Sorkey's passing and are devastated. He helped my son and my family tremendously for the 3 years from 2008 until 2011 when my son turned 21 in November. He was a wonderful Doctor and had a beautiful soul. My heart felt thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May he rest in peace.

I went to high school with David. He was a friend, and a very nice guy. I am sorry to learn of his passing. May he rest in peace.

There will never be anyone to take his place. I am grateful to his wife and children for sharing him with his patients. He worked miracles in so many lives. He shared his wisdom with me and helped me learn how to help my daughter. Because of his help my daughter became a better person. His wisest words to us were that the medications he prescribed weren't to change us but a tool to help us reach our goals. I can never express the gratitude I have for his family for the sacrifices they made so that we could partake in his wisdom. He is truly a warrior for God!

I am sincerely saddened by the death of Dr. Sorkey. He helped my daughter and our family when everyone else gave up on her. He was so helpful and reassuring. He always listened and was very patient. He was able to get to the causes of her problems and give her what she needed. I am praying for his family at this time and know how hard it is. Remember what a kind and wonderful man he was.

I met Dr. Sorkey in 2000 when I worked at the Department of Family and Children Services. I loved this man so much, that I sent ALL my kids that I had on my caseload even... the transfers went to him, too. :)... I never told him but most of the children that he treated was adopted successfully with no problems in coming back into the system. Because of his trusting and caring demeanor, I even had my son go to him for assistance. Mr. Sorkey made my son feel so special that he told him...he can be successfully with the knowledge and understanding of his situation. Now, my son does well academically and is a social butterfly. My son and I will greatly miss him. But I know that he is a Angel walking with us.

Thank you Mr. Sorkey for everything that you have done.

With a heavy heart I offer my deepest and most sincere sympathy and condolences to all of your family. David had been one of my dearest friends growing up in Asheville. Even in high school he was very wise and compassionate. Becoming a psychiatrist was the perfect calling for someone so sensitive and caring. We all feel this tragic loss, and wish you comfort and peace as you cherish the beautiful memories of this great man, husband and father.

I was so sorry to hear this news. My children were both treated by him for many years. He was such a tremendous help to them. ( My daughter is the one who actually gave me this sad news) She always looked forward to her visits and knew as well as I that he was there for her. No matter how busy he was he NEVER rushed appointments and listened with heart. He will truly be missed. We were blessed to have him in our lives.
To his family, please know we will have you in our prayers.

David Sorkey was a phenomenal individual who took the time to encourage and train me from a baby practitioner. His bright smile and easy laugh made an impression that has lasted through the years. He was able to balance the importance of his job and understanding of his influence while keeping true to his mission of service. He will be sorely missed.

December 25, 2015

Dr. Sorkey has been my son's doctor for 15 years. He began seeing my son when he was 3 years old, and he has been an anchor in our family. Dr. Sorkey did not just provide care for my son, but he was a source of strength, encouragement, and calmness for us. He has guided us on this journey with our son, and our family is one of many that will greatly miss him as a psychiatrist and as an extended member of our family. Columbus has lost an amazing asset to the community, and pediatric patients and their families have lost an irreplaceable advocate and champion fighting in our corner. I have no doubt that my son has an angel looking over him. Our loss can't begin to compare to the loss of a father or husband. But, I wanted you to know that Dr. Sorkey touched so many lives, and there is no measure to the impact that he had on the patients he cared for and the families he helped. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr.Sorkey's passing. I had the pleasure of working with this great man for 22 years. He was terrific psychiatrist who treated everyone as an important member of the treatment team. He saw people's strong points and helped them with their weakness's and helped them improve for themselves and their patients. Thousands of people in the southwest Georgia area benefited from his professional care and are now productive adults in the local area. The number of lives he saved in can not be counted but he is a hero to me and to many others an d will be missed. Always in our hearts, Thank you Dr. Sorkey.

I would not be alive if it had not been for this wonderful man and the adolescent team he created at the Bradley Center. He taught me that I was lovable and that I could have a life outside of misery. I think of him every day as I try to pass forward the gift he gave me. "A burden shared is divided. Joy shared is multiplied." You will be missed.

Dr. Sorkey was my doctor for the times I struggled with my ADD, and the times that I felt like giving up in life. I would never be the man I am now if it wasn't for Dr. Sorkey's dedication and caring heart. Though Dr. Sorkey has passed on from this earth, I still keep his teachings close to heart. May God bless Dr. Sorkey for eternity, and my condolences go to his family.

I was blessed with the opportunity to work with David Sorkey during my tenure as CNO at St Francis. he was one of the most honest, caring, and dedicated psychiatrists I have ever had the privilege of working with. He was a true advocate for children and adolescents and wasnt afraid to buck the system to make things right. I admired and respected him from day one. The medical community is now lacking a trail blazer, but his impact will last forever. God Bless You Dr Sorkey!

Elizabeth Wisnasky

December 21, 2015

Dr. Sorkey was more than a Dr. to me. He was a friend. He helped me through my darkest time as a teen, and he gave me hope again. He never gave up on me even when I had given up on myself. He was an amazing person and he cared with his whole being about everyone. I will miss him so much. My condolences.

Jim Devitt

December 21, 2015

David forever changed my life. When he started the Adolescent Treatment Program at the Bradley Center I was one of his first hires. He changed teenagers lives and most likely saved their lives as well. He treated all of his co-workers as equals and the team he put together was the finest I ever had the pleasure to work with. He made everyone feel important, including the kids. His death leaves a huge void which will never be filled. But David lives on in my heart, and I am grateful to have had the chance of knowing him as both a friend and a mentor. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Thirty eight years ago when I walked across the street to welcome a new neighbor little did I know what you would mean to me. Little did I know what you would mean to our city.
FOR ME! You became like a brother, a brother-in-law to Gloria, and an uncle to our three daughters. We have so many memories of things that only family's would share. I will now even admit that you were a better poker player than me.
FOR OUR CITY! The number of children and families you have helped will never be known. What I do know that each one of them has made Columbus a better place to live. Children have and are growing up to be productive adults because of the work you did. The kind of work God asks us to do. Quietly without ushers knowing.
Our city will miss you very much.
I will miss you so much more.
It is time to reap your reward with our Heavenly Father.
