Smiths Station, AL- Dick Madison Land, Sr., 88 of Smiths Station, AL passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm ET Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Ladonia Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Powers and Rev. David Howle officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, AL. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. Serving as pall bearers wil be Shay Stokes, Brandon Cox, Jamie Dyer, Nick Kozee, Jeff Harrison, Alan Stokes, Steve Newton, Jimmy Tomlin, Keith Powers and Dan Powers. Honorary pall bearers will be the St. Paul Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Land was born December 14, 1925 in Columbus, Georgia; son of the late John Henry Land, Sr. and Margert Minnie Lee McLeroy Land. He was formerly a professional baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinatti Reds then later retired from the railroad. He was a member of Ladonia Baptist Church and devoted his life to serving the Lord. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Agnes Powers Land and his great grandson, Cole.
Survivors include his daughters, Connie Motschwiller and husband Robert of Phenix City, AL, Sherryl Stokes and husband Carey of Smiths Station, AL, son, Dick M. Land, Jr. and wife Vickie of Phenix City, AL, grandchildren, Kelli Tomlin (Jimmy), Kase Newton (Steve), Anissa Dyer (Jamie), Cameron Cox (Brandon), Shay Stokes (Melita), Elisabeth Kozee (Nick), 17 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, numerous nieces,nephews and other relatives and friends.

Connie, Sherry, and Family,
I am saddened to read of the loss of your Father. He lived a full and meaningful life. I remember the Land and Stokes families well.
