Columbus, GA- Eleanor Catherine Lay, 87, of Columbus, GA, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. with Dr. Tony Dickerson officiating. Interment to follow at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lay was born in Pansey, Houston County, Alabama on March 22, 1930, daughter of the late William J. Croom and Viola Weeks Croom.
She was an active member of Pinehurst Baptist Church for many years. She retired in 1993 from the Muscogee County School District Food Service with over 17 years of employment.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur L. Lay and all nine of her sisters and brothers.
Survivors include her three children, JoAnn Patton and husband Michael of Waverly Hall, GA, Linda Miller and husband John of Columbus, GA, and Cecil Lay and wife Angie of Colorado Springs, CO, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Just want all of you to know we are praying for each of you. Aunt Catherine was like daddy they didn't mind telling you what they thought. We really enjoyed seeing her On the weekends especially after dad passed away. They both are up there straightening out heaven I'm sure.
