Columbus, Georgia - Florence Letitia Mero, 103, of Columbus passed on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Columbus Hospice. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 2935 9th Street, Columbus, GA. with the Rosary beginning at 10:30 AM. Fr. Florence Letitia Seon, affectionately known as "Tish", was born June 26, 1919 in New York City. She is the daughter of Florence Knipe and Landsdowne Seon. She attended St. Marks School in Harlem, graduating from Port Jefferson High School on Long Island. During those early years she spent many days roller-skating back and forth to school. This exemplified her drive which continued as she worked for a year after high school to ensure that she could afford to attend college at Hampton University in Virginia. At Hampton, Letitia met her future husband, Robert Mero. They married and became parents of twins (Mary and Martha), three years later another set of twin girls (Camellia and Carolia) and thirteen years later one daughter (Nancy). After graduation they moved to New York where she began her career at the New York City Housing Authority, ultimately retiring as the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity. After retirement, she and Robert moved full time to East Hampton New York.
Traveling was one passion which she was able to fulfill visiting Germany, Belgium, Russia, Thailand and Africa internationally, while also having the opportunity to go to Disneyland when it first opened, the Grand Canyon and other cultural locales across the United States. Her other passion of reading kept her devouring mysteries and romance novels for many years. Keeping her mind active up until her final year. She was loved and respected by her family and many friends. Letitia is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Martha and Mary and two grandchildren, Vaughan and Sidne.
Left to cherish her memories are three daughters, Camellia (George Olesh), Carolia (Thomas Malone) and Nancy; eight grandchildren,16 great-grand children and one great-great grand child.
