Flossie Sackie Obituary

Flossie Marie Sackie
November 14, 2021
Columbus, Georgia - Flossie Marie Sackie, 86, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on November 14, 2021, at home with family by her side.
Flossie was born in Pulaski, KY to Walter and Bertie (Barnes) Clines. Growing up, she cultivated a creative mind, a strong resilience, and a joy for being active, and she carried these through the rest of her life. Flossie met her beloved husband, John, in 1954 and they fell in love by sending letters to one another during their courtship. The couple was married later that year and she took pride in being a devoted wife for 67 glorious years. Flossie was a supportive mother and was incredibly proud of her five children.
She influenced countless young lives with her motherly instincts as a Food Service Manager for the Muscogee County School District for twenty years. Flossie had an unwavering faith and attended St. Anne Catholic Church where she experienced great joy singing in the choir for 51 years. She instilled a competitive streak in her children and grandchildren through countless card games and expressed her creativity through her many sewing projects, her short stories, and the monthly "Grandma's Pearls of Wisdom" that she sent her grandchildren. Flossie was an enthusiastic solver of crossword puzzles, reader of mystery novels, and fan of watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. While Flossie excelled in many hobbies, her greatest joy was time spent with her husband and family. The family will forever cherish her beautiful life, and her legacy will continue to inspire those that knew her.
In her final years, Flossie was incredibly grateful for the blessing of many caregivers that shared their love and allowed her to stay in the comfort of home with her husband, John.
In addition to her parents, Flossie was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Rose, Classie Farmer, and Jane French, and her brother (infant), her son, John W. Sackie Jr., and son-in-law Charlie Proctor III.
She is survived by her husband, John W. Sackie Sr., children Michael Sackie (Jackie), Teresa Proctor, Timothy Sackie (Linda), and Catherine Eckstein (William), ten grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren whom she adored greatly.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, November 19, 2021, at St. Anne Catholic Church at 10 am, directly followed by a burial service at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 18th, 2021, from 6-8 pm with a rosary prayer service from 5:30-6 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Anne Catholic Church Music Program.
