Columbus, GA- SMG (Ret) Francis W. Murtha, 86, of Columbus, GA died at Kindred Hospice Saturday, September 02, 2017.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00A.M. Friday, September 8, 2017 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father McCarthy officiating. The rosary will be said at 6:00P.M. Thursday, September 7, 2017 with visitation to follow until 8:00p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907. Committal services with military honors will be held at a later date at Calvaton National Cemetery, NY.
SGM (Ret) Murtha was born September 26, 1930 in Bronx, NY son of the late Francis W. Murtha and Martha Johnston Murtha. He had retired from the U. S. Army after 38 years of dedicated and honorable service to our country. After retiring from the U. S. Army, he enjoyed volunteering at his church, St. Anne Catholic, the AARP as a driving coach, and traveling with his wife. His wisdom and influence has and will continue to have a positive impact on his family and those whom he met.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Veronica Deegan Murtha, Columbus, GA; five children, Thomas Murtha, Mineola, NY, Patricia (Michael) Cuba, CO; Stephen Murtha, CO, Kevin Murtha, Mineola, NY and Michael Murtha, Columbus, GA; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Patricia Deegan, FL; numerous friends and extended family.
Flowers will be accepted or donations are encouraged to be made in the memory of SGM (Ret) Murtha to your favorite charity.
