Gay Whisnant Obituary

Gay L. Whisnant March 1, 1934 - January 21, 2010 FORTSON, GA— Gay L. Whisnant, 75, of Fortson, GA died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John C. Boyer officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907. Mrs. Whisnant was born March 1, 1934 in Ellsworth, ME daughter of the late Freeman L. and Dorothy Wooster Burgess. She was a homemaker and a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the Columbus-Ft. Benning Shrine Ladies Auxiliary, the Shrine Jinxettes Clown Wives and an honorary member of the Shrine Guardettes. She was also a member of the Hillbilly Unit. The Shrine members were her second family, always giving her support. She was also a member of the Scottish Rite Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Eli Whisnant and great granddaughter, Emily Peacock. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Stephens of Columbus, GA; son, Larry Whisnant (Rosie) of Fortson, GA; two brothers, John Burgess (Jane) of Columbus and Freeman Burgess, Jr. (Janice) of Albany, GA; four grandchildren, Tracy White (Billy) of Fortson, GA, Ashley Harrison (Kevin) of Midland, GA, Robin Peacock (Chad) of Columbus, GA and Laura Whisnant of Fortson, GA; and four great grandchildren, Kinsley White, Nathan Gibson, Abigail Harrison, and Clay Peacock. Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial donations to the Shriners Hospital in care of Al Sihah Shrine, 222 Mecca Dr., Macon, GA 31205.
