Columbus, GA- George Allen Clarke, Sr., 71, of Columbus, Georgia, died Monday, July 2, 2018. He was born July 14, 1946 in Asheville, North Carolina, to the late Dr. Morris A. Clarke and Anne Greer Clarke of Columbus, Georgia.
After graduating from Columbus' Spencer High School (Class of 1964) in the Muscogee County School District, George Allen earned a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from Daniel Payne College in Birmingham, Alabama and later earned a Master's Degree from Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. He was the former husband of Mary D. Clarke (deceased). George served as a Middle School Teacher in Birmingham, Alabama and a Counselor for middle and high schools in Columbus, Georgia. A proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and Beth Salem Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Georgia, George was also an avid reader, history enthusiast, and extraordinary poet, all of which made him a wonderful storyteller. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and his remarkable sense of humor always made him a memorable guest.
He is survived by three sons, George Allen Clarke, Jr. and Morris A. Clarke, II, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Wesley Clarke of Savannah, Georgia, five grandchildren, Christian, Cierra, Jordyn, Jada, Geordan, and GeMorris, one brother, Dr. Morris O. Clarke (Dr. Bernice Carter Clarke – deceased) of Fayetteville, Georgia, one brother in law, Dr. Clifton T. Tinsley (Dr. Betty Anne Clarke Tinsley – deceased) of East Point, Georgia, a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

I know it has been a while but I have been looking for years. Tonight I found the best teacher I ever had. I always wanted to tell him the impact he had on my life. He helped me through my parent´s divorce. He was more than a teacher, he was a mentor and friend. I wish I could have found him before he passed.
