Mr. Harvey Glance, 66, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Phenix City, AL passed Mon., June 12, 2023 in Mesa, AZ.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. EST (9:00 a.m. CST), Sat., June 24, 2023 at Franchise MB Church 1000 Dillingham Street, Phenix City, AL with Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City, AL. Visitation is Fri., June 23, 2023 from 12-5:30 p.m. EST (11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. CST) according to Taylor Funeral Home, Inc.
Mr. Glance was born March 28, 1957, to the late Wheeler Glance, Sr., and the late Ella Lee McCoy Glance. He was a graduate of Central High School and Auburn University; four time Olympian; first black coach at Auburn University and University of Alabama. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Tammi Williams Glance; three sons; Walter Gordy, III, Carter Gregory and Kirani James; four siblings; Wheeler, Jr., (Glenda) Glance, Patricia Glance, Robert (Betty) Glance and Ella Mae (Wayne) Smith; a host of other relatives; and friends. I was a third grade student at Matthews Elementary in Columbus, Ga when Mr. Glance visited our classroom. I remember he sat with us and talked with us, always smiling. He had a gold medal with him and I was a curious child, so asked if I could touch it. He said, "Here, try it on," and put it on me. I have shared that story so many times about the kindness and smile of Mr. Glance. My condolences.

Uncle Harvey "Edward", I think about you every single day, I try not to cry, but I can't help but miss all of your laughter and how you would just be here with us having a great time. I met Harvey Glance in the Fred Douglas apartments in Phenix City. He loved a foot race and I lost every sprinting competition that we had but I did win racing around the block. Inspiration from our childhood races inspired me to complete marathons in New York city and Atlanta but Edward won olympic gold which we are proud of. Edward congratulations on a well lived life of perfection,dignity, love and respect.
