Clumbus, GA- Rev. James Earl Shavers, 71, of Columbus, GA went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 17, 2013. James was born to the late Hiram and Maggie Brooks Shavers February 2, 1942 in Columbus, GA.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 19, 2013 6:00-8:00 pm in the Saint Elmo Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus GA. Funeral service will be Friday, December 20, 2013 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, followed by a committal service at 1:00 pm at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, AL. The Rev. Danny Courtney will be officiating.
Rev. Shavers is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Aaron Shavers of Columbus, GA. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Peggy Shavers, one son; Chris (Heather) Shavers of Cataula, GA, two grandchildren; Alex (Mark) Icenhour, and Kevin Shavers, two great grandchildren; Carter and Grayson, three brothers; Ben (Fay) Shavers of Columbus, GA, Richard (Shalina) Shavers of Smiths Station, AL, and Donnie (Cindy) Shavers of Columbus, GA; one sister Brenda (Bobby) Sanes of Columbus, GA.
Rev Shavers was the Assistant Pastor at Bethel Tabernacle Assembly of God for 25 years. Before retiring he had worked in the textile industry as a Supervisor. He loved his family and playing with his grandchildren, loved his church family and working with people. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
