Jimmy Stewart Obituary

Jimmy Lee Stewart August 27, 1940 - January 5, 2009 COLUMBUS, GA — Mr. Jimmy Lee Stewart was born on August 27, 1940 in Moundsville, Alabama to Doris and Tommie Stewart. He was raised in Birmingham, Alabama where he graduated from Parker High School. He later retired from the United States Army after 25 years of service. He received the Purple Heart during combat in Vietnam among several other honors. He directed the Officers' Club and the Noncommissioned Officers' Club at Fort Benning, Georgia for many years after retirement. On January 5, 2009, MSG (Ret.) Jimmy Lee Stewart, age 68, of Columbus, Georgia passed at Saint Francis Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Stewart, a sister, Joanne Stewart Lee, and a brother, Tommy Stewart Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Dorothy Ann Stewart; three daughters, Yolanda Willis, Sonsia Richerson, and Tracie Faniel (Darryl); three sons, Clinton Stewart, Major (Ret.) Reginald Stewart, and Rodney Stewart (Carolyn); twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his father, Tommie Stewart, a brother, Toney L. Stewart (Ernie); an aunt, Annie Mae Samuel, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 at Faith Tabernacle Community Church at 12:00 p.m., 1603 Floyd Road Columbus, GA, officiated by Rev. R. George Plummer. The interment will follow at the Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, GA. Visitation is Thursday, January 8, 2009, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 11:45 a.m. the day of the service. Arrangements entrusted to the staff of Charles E. Huff International Funeral Home.

I will really miss Jim. I always lliked talking to him about family and politics. I will miss the fun times we had when we visited Birmingham and did things as couples. I know his is a great loss for Tony. He will truly miss his "Big Brother."

It hurts again to see another one of our Daddys have gone from Forest Hills. We have so many good memories to cherish.
