Johnny Thornton Obituary

Johnny Lee Thornton November 28, 1950 - October 5, 2004 COLUMBUS, GA - Mr. Johnny Lee Thornton, 53, of 1411 Curtis Maddox Drive, Columbus, died October 5, at Doctor's Hospital. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, October 11, at Green Acres Cemetery with Jerry Moffett officiating, according to Charles E. Huff's International Funeral Home. Mr. Thornton was born November 28, 1950, in Fort Benning, Ga., son of Mrs. Mollie Thornton and the late Sgt. Timothy Thornton. He was a 1968 graduate of the former Baker High School, where he loved and played basketball. He was also a member of the high school track team. The 6'6" basket ball star was considered for the Atlanta Hawks. He also served in the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War He was employed at Polychrome. Survivors include his mother, Mollie Thornton; former wife, Thelma Thornton; son, Richard Thornton; four daughters, Jeneanne Greene, Karnese Thornton, Kelsey Thornton, and Kimberly Thornton,; sister, Paulette Harris; three brothers, Timothy Thornton (Carrie), Erwin Thornton, Derek Thornton Sr. (Virginia); three grandchildren, three aunts and uncles, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

It was with much sadness that I read of the death of Mollie Thornton's son. Mollie is an old friend. The family has my heartfelt condolences.
