Katherine Tally Obituary

Katherine Crane Tally April 11, 1918 - March 20, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— Katherine Crane Tally of Columbus, GA, formerly of Homerville, GA died Saturday, March 20, 2010 after a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Homerville United Methodist Church in Homerville, GA with Rev. James Davis officiating.  Interment will follow at City Cemetery in Douglas, GA. Mrs. Tally was born April 11, 1918 in Dixie GA, daughter of the late Joseph Brewer Crane and Kittie Lee Bower Crane.  Her brother was the late Dr. Joe Bower Crane, Sr. of Valdosta, GA and her sister was the late Francis Crane Tally of Blackshear, GA. She attended Brooks County Public Schools and graduated from Andrew College in Cuthburt, GA and later Valdosta State College with a B.S. degree in Education.  She married Oren Edgar Tally, of Douglas, GA, on October 9, 1937 and they were married for 68 years until his death in 2005. Mrs. Tally was a teacher in the Clinch County Schools for 23 years. She was an active member of Homerville United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities including President of the United Methodist Women and Sunday School teacher.  She was a member of the Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class and the Mary Claire Circle.  She was a member of the John Floyd Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Hugenot Society and the First Families of Georgia.  She was a former President of the Homerville Woman's Club.  Mrs. Tally was a talented and accomplished artist in many mediums.  She had a love of travel and especially enjoyed the trips she and her husband took with each of the grandchildren to Europe. Mrs. Tally, affectionately known as "Kak Kak",  was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She is survived by: Sandra Tally Coolik (daughter), Kenneth Louis Coolik (son-in-law), Frank Kieffer Martin, Jr. (grandson), John Tally Martin (grandson), Melissa Boutrous Martin (granddaughter-in-law), Katherine Lee Martin (granddaughter) and John Tally Martin, Jr. (great grandson), Mr. and Mrs. Alan Luther Vestal (sister-in-law and husband), Edgar Sidney Tally, Jr. (brother-in-law), many nieces and nephews and special caregivers Annethia Hardaway, Eloise Cook, Judy Roberts and Gisela Peterson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to:  Homerville United Methodist Church, St. Paul United Methodist Church or Columbus Hospice. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Mrs. Tally was a remarkeble woman and I will cherish our talks we had together close to my heart. I know she and Mr. Tally are having a grand time in heaven now together again.
