Keith Bissell Obituary

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Keith Bissell Jr. September 12, 1932- May 31, 2006 COLUMBUS, GA— Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Keith Bissell, Jr., age 73, of Columbus, died May 31, 2006 in Houston, TX. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at St. Paul United Methodist Church preceded by a private burial with full military honors at Ft. Benning's Main Post Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary's Macon Road Chapel. Dr. Edwin M. Cooper Jr. will officiate. Mr. Bissell was born September 12, 1932 in Napa, California. He was the son of the late Keith and Marion Eddy Bissell, also of Napa. Mr. Bissell was a U.S. Army Veteran with 25 years of service. He served in Korea and the Vietnam war. He had tours of duty in Washington, D.C. with the Old Guard; in Germany; and as a U.S. Army Exchange Officer with the British Forces in England. Mr. Bissell also served in numerous other assignments in the United States culminating with his retirement in 1977. Later, Mr. Bissell worked at Ft. Benning in Combat Developments, representing Infantry issues at a variety of international forums, including NATO panels. Mr. Bissell attended Brown Military Academy in San Diego, CA.; the University of California at Los Angeles; and later received his Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska. Mr. Bissell was a member of the Association of the U.S. Army; Military Officers Association of America; Military Order of World Wars; Military Order of the Loyal Legions of the United States; Infantry Association; Kiwanis Club of Columbus and the Green Island Country Club. He was active in a variety of community and church activities. Mr. Bissell was a long time member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and a member of the Chancel Choir. He is survived by his wife, Paula Benton Bissell of Columbus; a son, Keith Bissell, III of Atlanta; a daughter, Kathleen Bissell McCullough and her husband Mark of Silver Spring, MD.; six grandchildren, Corinne Marie McCullough, Michael Keith McCullough, Claire Elizabeth McCullough, Olivia Bragdon McCullough, Keith Bissell, IV, and Jacob Ryan Bissell; two brothers, Charles R. Bissell of Spokane, WA. and David A. Bissell of Napa, CA.; a sister, Charlotteanna Gosling of Angwin, CA.; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Music Ministry, the Wynnton Neighborhood Network or a charity of your choice.

Lt Bissell was my expect. Lieutenant while serving in the 48th Inf. In Germany, 1958-1960. He was a Goodman. Sorry for the family and country´s loss. Rest in peace Colonel
