Kenneth Tarvin Obituary

Kenneth (Ken) Lee Tarvin
Naples, FL

Kenneth (Ken) Lee Tarvin, 81, passed away October 16, 2014 while on a family vacation cruise in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Ken passed away doing what he loved most, cruising and being with his family.
Ken, son of Ruby and Paul Tarvin, was born April 2, 1933 and grew up in Cincinnati, OH. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity at Miami University, Oxford, OH and proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War. A dedicated and loving father, husband, and grandfather, he was passionately committed to his family and friends, acting with a servant's heart and love for those he knew. His magnanimous personality has made for numerous lifetime friends which he treasured.
Ken and Pat (his wife of nearly 60 years who passed away in March) moved from Cincinnati to Naples in 1967 when Ken and his brother, Ron, bought the downtown Rexall Drug Store. Ken bought Naples Travel Agency in 1973 where his love for traveling and cruising the world began. Ken's favorite place to travel was Africa where he took his entire family on a safari for his and Pat's 50th wedding anniversary. Ken and Pat had traveled to six continents and almost every country in the world. As recently as this year he was asked to escort tours around the world.
Ken was a long-time member of the Naples Kiwanis Club and First United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing tennis. He was awarded Kiwanian of the year for 1972 to 1973 and Boss of the Year by his team at Naples Travel Agency during the 1990s. He was also a long-time supporter and chaperone of the Naples High School Golden Eagle Marching Band.
Ken is survived by his son, Jim and wife, Leslie of Chattanooga, TN; his daughter, Lee Ann O'Rourke and husband, Tom of Land O'Lakes, FL; granddaughters, Meghan Carnes and her husband, Cory, Emily Tarvin, and Jamie O'Rourke. He will be dearly missed by all of those who knew him and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 388 First Avenue South, Naples, FL 34103 with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Ken Tarvin's name can be made to Miami University Foundation / Scholarship Support, 725 East Chestnut, Oxford, OH 45056.

Jim, Lee Ann and families ! Your father and I go all the way back to early in our freshman year at Miami and you had him pegged pretty well. He was kind, generous, loved travelling, loved Pat and loved you and your families. He will be missed by us and by so many. You have our deepest sympathy.
