Larry Lupo Obituary

Dr. Larry Waller Lupo July 28, 1932- January 11, 2007 PHENIX CITY, AL— Dr. Larry Waller Lupo, age 74, of Phenix City, died at home on January 11, 2007, having battled Parkinson's disease for more than a decade. Larry was married to Cynthia Belcher Lupo for more than 54 years. Cynthia passed away in November of 2006. Larry is survived by his two sons, Mark R. Lupo and his wife Elaine and their two sons, Jeff and Chris, and Scott R. Lupo and his wife, Sun, and their two children, Brandon and Justin. He is also survived by a brother, Dick, and a number of special nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry Lupo was born on July 28, 1932 in Phenix City, AL., son of the late Irving Day Lupo and Lillie Waller Lupo. He was married to Cynthia Belcher Lupo on September 3, 1952, just prior to leaving Korea, where he served in the Army Signal Corps. Upon his return from Korea, he began pursuing a teaching career. He received his B.A. and Masters degree from the University of Georgia. Larry began his career in teaching at Central High School later transferring to then Columbus College, where he taught European History for more than 25 years. Upon retirement, Larry and Cynthia increased their travels together. Favorite trips were to France, Canada, the Caribbean and the great West of the United States. Traveling with their children and grandchildren, they had their best trip celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on a cruise through Alaska's Inland Passage, highlighted by an early awesome display of the Northern Lights. After the Alaskan adventure, the frequency of their trips decreased due to health considerations and the aging process. Their trips ended when health considerations precluded any further travel. Their photos are the keys to memories of their long and happy life. Larry has donated his body to science. The family will receive relatives and friends at 3100 20th Street, Phenix City, AL. 36870 from 1 until 3 p.m. EST on Sunday, January 14. Family may be contacted at 334-298-7719, according to Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Columbus State University Foundation, 4225 University Avenue, Columbus, GA. 31907 in memory of Larry Lupo.

Your father was a wonderful person. He taught me at Columbus College and was respected by all of us in his class. I later taught history because of his influence. I am so sorry you have lost both your parents.
