Columbus, Georgia- Miriam Annette Maddox Kent, 91 of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Miriam Annette Maddox Kent was born on May 7, 1926 in Jackson, Georgia to the late Franklin L. and Beatrice M. Maddox. She was a 1946 graduate from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics Education. She was married to the late Charles H. Kent, Jr. Mrs. Kent was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church since 1954, where she taught Sunday School, sang in choir, and delivered meals to homebound. She was a member of United Methodist Women, holding several offices and serving on various committees. Mrs. Kent worked as a volunteer at Wynnton Neighborhood Network. She was an avid reader and volunteered at the Columbus Public Library for several years. She was an active participant in her children's school and sports activities. After her children completed school she went to work with the Muscogee County Department of Family and Children Services as a Child Welfare Supervisor. After retirement she and Charles enjoyed many years of traveling. Her many grandchildren gave her joy and love. She is preceded in death by other than her parents and her husband, her niece Frankie Maddox Strickland.
Survivors include her brother, Claude Maddox (Barbara) of Jackson, Georgia; children: Judy Davidson (Don), Jimmy Kent (Michele), Jean Price-Garland (Christy), and Janet Cavin (Mike); grandchildren: Eric Davidson, Kelly Middleton (Brian), Jimmy Kent, Jr., Ali Lindsey (Terry), Kent Garland (Wendi), Matt Garland, Cal Price, Trant Hayes (Hannah), Christina Hayes, Andrew Hayes, and D.J. Hayes; eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special gratitude for the support and care shown and given to their mother by Linda Baldwin, Hazel Granison, Deborah Harris, and Patricia Stanford.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Wynnton United Methodist Church. Family will visit with friends after the service at the church in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Wynnton United Methodist Church, P.O.
