Smiths Station, AL- Rev. Richard Hassell, 68, of 350 Lee Road 294, Smiths Station, AL passed Friday, May 15, 2015 peacefully at his home in Smiths Station, AL.
Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. CST, May 21, 2015 at Greenwood CME Church, 3311 Kimball Ave., Memphis, TN with Bishop Teresa Snorton, officiating. Interment will follow in Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Memphis, TN. Visitation is Monday, May 18, 2015 from 3 - 8 p.m. EST at Taylor Funeral Home.
Rev. Hassell was born March 30, 1947 in Tennessee to the late Richard A. Hassell and the late Martha Bowen Hassell. Presiding Elder Hassell served in the United States Air Force and also served the church in numerous capacities in Georgia, Texas, Tennessee and Alabama. Rev. Hassell was an ordained elder in Full Connection in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He served as Presiding Elder of the Montgomery-Phenix City-Opelika District since July 2010. During this time he also served as pastor of Oak Grove C.M.E. in Davidson and Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church in Smiths Station, AL.
Survivors other than his wife, Carolyn include, three sons, Randall, Brent, and Marcus; one brother, Victor; two sisters, Mary and Valerie; three grandchildren, Kendall, Jelani, and Brynn. Along with his family are people he loved throughout the Church and community, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Richard I will never forget you because we were an essential part of my life. When I came into the CME church you and several other friends introduced me to the most important things of life and that was Praying the Word of God. You spoke at my 50th birthday celebration and I´m still standing strong in the Word. Rest well my Brother.
