Columbus, Georgia - Theodore "Ted" Ferring, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 25, 2024, in his adopted hometown of Columbus, Georgia. Although a native of Dubuque, Iowa, he grew to love the Columbus area having served various tours there during his time in the United States Army.

Ted joined the U.S. Army in 1957 as an infantryman and was later commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1961 where he went on to become an Army Aviator. He became a cornerstone in the U.S. Army Aviation community. His vision and dedication were evident in the tough assignments he undertook. As a two-tour veteran of the Vietnam War with a 32-year career in the U.S. Army and having been awarded the Legion of Merit, Soldier's Medal, and four Bronze Star medals.

Ted is survived by his lifelong sweetheart, Joan Mary Utzig and their four children: Theodore, Todd, Timothy, and Tracy. Ted's legacy is also carried on by his adored grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each of them will remember their grandfather/ great grandfather for his constant love. A service to celebrate Ted's life will be held on September 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Saint Anne Catholic Church, 2000 Kay Circle, Columbus, GA, St. Anne Live - St. Anne Catholic Church - Columbus, GA with a reception to follow. During a separate ceremony, Ted will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
