William Harris Obituary

William A. Harris March 16, 1924 - September 20, 2010 LAGRANGE, GA— Mr. William A. (Bill) Harris, 86, of LaGrange passed away Monday, September 20, 2010, at Twin Fountains Nursing Home. Mr. Harris was born March 16, 1924 in LaGrange, son of the late Tom and Jessie Price Harris. He worked for Milliken and Company, and was the owner and operator of Harris Furniture Store and the Nic-Nac Convenience Store. Mr. Harris was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He served in Northern France and was a recipient of two bronze stars. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife of 67years, Geraldine Whitley Harris of LaGrange, three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Ray Cowan of LaGrange, Wanda and Johnny Horton of Columbus, and Delaine and Mike Gay of LaGrange; daughter-in-law, Ellen Harris of Columbus; grandchildren, Kim Rowlett, Joey Horton, Toby Horton, Brian Gay, Brent Gay, and Andrea Ogle; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, William Vic Harris. Funeral services will be 2:00 Wednesday at the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with Rev. Danny Allen and Pastor Mike Gay officiating. Interment will be at Shadowlawn Cemetery. The family will be at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Delaine and Mike Gay, at 339 Thrash Road, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 until 2:00 before the service. Flowers will be accepted, or those desiring may make contributions in memory of Mr. Harris to Hospice LaGrange 1510 Vernon Road LaGrange, GA 30240.
