Columbus, GA- Mrs. Yolanda Maria Shipp Williams of Columbus passed Saturday at St. Francis Hospital. She was 50 years of age and resided at 1708 Laney Drive.
The daughter of the late Elmer and Willie Thomas Shipp, Mrs. Williams was born in Ft. Benning, GA and was a 1983 graduate of Kendrick High School. She receive her BS degree from Tuskegee University and her MA degree in Nursing from Troy State University. She was a member of Greater St. Mark AME Church and was currently attending Friendship Baptist Church. She was employed as a Nursing Practitioner at the Sand Hill Clinic at Ft. Benning, GA. She was a member of the Nursing Practitioners and the United Nursing Associations.
Survivors include: her husband of 24 years, Ondra L. Williams; two sons, Serjio Davison (Patrice) and Sedrick R. Williams; a daughter, Ondrianna "Joi" Williams; three grandchildren, Keira and Serjianna Davison and Maison Williams; three brothers, Lewis Diamond, Ronald Diamond and Michael Diamond (Audray);her mother-in-law, Martha Williams; in-laws, Veleisha Dunnell (Charles) and Keith D. Williams; other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Williams will be Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Progressive Chapel with interment in Evergreen Memorial Park. Rev. Chad D. Bryant will officiate. Visitation is Thursday, 2 til 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 1:45 the day of the service. My sincere condolence go out to her family and friends. I knew Yolanda from Rothschild Jr. High School. She and my sister Georgette Leonard (Council) were the best of friends. My sister would spend the weekends with her and they got their first jobs throwing papers on the weekends. May God wrap his loving arms around her family and friends during this most difficult time.

What wonderful memories I have from nursing school with this beautiful and fun young woman. We all had a wonderful time in Atlanta surviving the BIG TU! I know for sure there is a special place for your loved one on high because she was special on earth. Nurses are naturally angels but now she has earned her wings. i remember Mrs. Williams from soccer when her son and my brother played together. We use to be loud at them soccer games, I know the people would say will you all please sit down and be quiet. (LOL) Not only that when she worked for MACH. She was such a sweet and joyful woman. May God Give you all Strength at this Time.Just remember God received an Angel.
