Barbara Hanson Obituary

PETERBOROUGH – Barbara A. Hanson, 85, died peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Pheasantwood Center in Peterborough after a period of failing health. Barbara was born on August 2, 1932, daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Miller) Blanchette.  She was a lifelong resident of Peterborough and had worked at Upland farms for more than 28 years before retiring and caring for many of her grandchildren and extended family members.  This passion eventually evolved into "Mem's Daycare" and she lovingly cared for many friends' children as well.

Barbara married Clarence 'Hap' Hanson on August 26, 1950.   He predeceased Barbara in 1994.  Her son, Scott, also died earlier, in 2011.

She is survived by her son, Wayne, and his wife, Marjorie, Hanson of Key Largo, Florida; her two daughters, Karen Hanson of Sharon and Lorie Snyder of Peterborough; her two sisters, Shirley Elliott of Antrim and Francis Venable of Keene; her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Amy and husband, Ross, Richards, their children, Dustin, Garrett and Rowan of Brooksville, Florida; Brian and wife, Emily, Shaw, his son, Jacoby, of Peterborough; Chris Hanson, his partner, Kris, his children, Jade and Haley, of Key Largo, Florida; Scott Shaw of Marlow, New Hampshire; Derrik Hanson, his partner, Justine, their daughter, Grace, of Peterborough; Tiffany, and husband, Dave, Truglia of Cutchogue Long Island, New York and many cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends and the numerous children "Mem" cared for over the past 25 plus years. As a member of the Union Congregational Church (33 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH 03458) a Memorial Service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held there on April 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at the church.  All are welcome.

Barbara has requested no flowers please.  Instead, memorial donations may be made in Barbara's memory to Children's Haven International, 44 East Minnesota Road, Pharr, Texas 78577, or to an Alzheimer's or Cancer Charity or Research Facility of your choice. To share memories, photographs or condolences with Barbara's family, please visit her permanent online memorial at www.cournoyerfh.com.

I am so sorry to hear of Mem's passing. She was a truly wonderful woman. I have thought of her so often over the years with much gratitude for the love and care that gave to our son Nellson when he was little and we were new to Peterborough. I send my condolences to Mem's family.
