Colin Momeyer Obituary

Colin McLean Momeyer

Peterborough, NH - Hasudo Colin McLean Momeyer, age 44, of Peterborough, passed away in the comfort of his home on December 1, 2025. He was born in Peterborough on December 19, 1980, the son of Thomas and Jane (O'Connell) Momeyer.

Colin spent his early years in the Monadnock region in southwest New Hampshire, exploring and going on walks, hikes, apple picking, biking, climbing Mount Monadnock, learning Judo, and other activities with his younger sister, family, and friends. He attended Fuller Elementary School (Keene). At age 8, the family moved to Peterborough, NH, where Colin attended public schools, won the school turkey trot, excelled at soccer, and rode with a mountain biking group. He took college courses through Union Institute in Vermont and trained and worked in peer support services.

There were regular family trips to Cape Cod and Nantucket, MA, where he mastered driving on sandy roads peeking over the steering wheel, and summer vacations to Shelter Harbor, Westerly, RI. As a young adult, he traveled to Morocco, France, and other parts of Europe. He also traveled and rode trains and buses to the Pacific Northwest and through many states across America.

Colin loved music and performed with a high school band, the Whelkgnomes. He accumulated and gave away many instruments including acoustic guitars, Moroccan drums, flutes, a shruti box (from India), bulbul tarang ("waves of nightingales" stringed instrument), sitar, trumpet, mandolin, synthesizer/sampling, and others. Some works by Colin Ka Rin Momeyer: https://sometrees7.bandcamp.com.

He mastered the I Ching and wore the cauldron tattoo, symbolizing nourishment, rejuvenation, and refinement by fire. He took solace in writing poetry, watching foreign films, absurdist comedy, studying Buddhist texts, and was an avid reader of world classics and literature. Colin wrote articles for newspapers and provided critiques for music and books. He published his own prose and poetry, some at "be universal" by hasudo colin momeyer at https://beuniversal.art.blog.

In 2011, Colin's strong beliefs in social justice led him to join The Occupy Movement and traveled from Boston to Washington DC, Florida, New Orleans, and Chicago.

Colin's study of Buddhism began at age 15 with a Zen book from his lifelong friend, Elana. He attended retreats in countless places with many Buddhist teachers. Colin wrote, "In the summer of 2023, Gendo Allyn Field ordained me as a Zen monk with the name, Hasudo, Japanese for Lotus Way. And the journey continues"

Colin enjoyed visiting western Massachusetts and Vermont and country drives around the Monadnock region with his family and friends. Most recently, he found great joy in painting Zen Buddhist Enso circles symbolizing enlightenment.

In addition to his father Tom Momeyer and Tom's wife, Wendy Keith, Colin is survived by his loving partner, Kerry Wright, of Hollis, NH; his sister Emily and her husband, Noah Jones, and their children, of Temecula, CA; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to the Redfield and Franklin families who have shown so much love to Colin over the years.

He was predeceased by his mother Jane (O'Connell) Momeyer in 2015.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 17, 2026, at 2 PM with Gendo Allyn Field officiating, in the Unitarian Universalist Church parish hall, Peterborough, NH, and online via Zoom. Contact the family for Zoom details and if weather is severe as the event may be postponed to the next day.
