Elizabeth Buchanan Obituary

Betty Buchanan, formerly of Westminster, MA and Leominster, MA has passed away at 79 years old due to failing health. We believe that she is now in the arms of Jesus and reunited with loved ones in Heaven.

Betty married Hollis Buchanan of Leominster, MA in 1961. Together, they raised two children; Maribeth and Chris. Hollis passed away in 2001. After many years in Leominster, Betty spent the past year with Maribeth and Diane in Peterborough, NH where she enjoyed many good meals, Abby the dog, Hallmark movies, and visits from Elena and Leann, and Cousins Dawn, Eva, and Cheryl. When Betty needed more care, she moved to Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Jaffrey, NH. There she received wonderful, attentive, and loving care from an exceptional group of people.

Betty's greatest joy in life was her granddaughter, Holly, Chris' daughter. Holly was "Number 1" as Grammy reminded her regularly.

Betty worked at Victory Supermarket in Leominster for many years after being a stay-at-home mom when her kids were little. She also worked as a Bank Teller in Ashburnham, MA, and as a Teacher's Aide in the Leominster School System, from which she retired. In all of her jobs, she enjoyed making lifelong friends. She was also active at St. Edward Church in Westminster and was part of the folk music group, CCD, and the Church fair.

Betty loved and had a lot of passion for her family, friends and favorite things including: baking, cooking, sharing, soap operas, romantic movies, old movies, Barbara Streisand and Johnny Mathis music, the Obama family, going to Hawaii with Hollis, Disney in Florida with her kids, Wyman's Pond with the kids, The Brassard's camp, the Cape, Ogunquit, York Beach, Florida, and many get-togethers. Betty was known to be the last person to leave a party and someone who could be called at any hour of the night just to chat. Betty loved her doctors John Murphy and after he retired, Megan Curtis.

Betty is survived by her son, Chris Buchanan of Milford, NH, her daughter Maribeth Buchanan of Peterborough and her partner Diane Champagne, her granddaughter Holly Buchanan and her mom Kelly Buchanan of Hudson, NH, and many beloved cousins and their children and grandchildren.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the inherent risks, the services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, in honor of Betty's love of children, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children or Lions Club

So sorry for your loss - I have many fond memories of Betty. She & I became good friends when she started working @ S.E. School. We spent a lot of time together over the years whether it was @ work or outside events. She became a part of my family & I knew just about everything going on with Maribeth, Chris & the love of her life "Holly". I will truly miss her. Rest in Peace my friend!
