Joyce Nelson Obituary

PETERBOROUGH -- With much sadness, the family of Joyce Carolyn Nelson announces her passing on Friday, June 29, 2018. Joyce was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on December 6, 1936 to Dorothy and Edwin Bruckshaw. She was a twin to Joan Barker of Warwick, Rhode Island; and predeceased by brother Donald Bruckshaw of Wales.

Joyce Nelson touched many lives in her community and spent hours volunteering at Monadnock Hospital. She enjoyed her cats Ariel and Oliver, rescuing many pets from Humane Societies, preparing meals for friends and family, Dublin newsletter production, collecting oil paintings, dancing, and political campaigning - including rallying with Moms for Mitt. She was a co-founder of the local Dublin newsletter, The Advocate.

During her younger married life years, Joyce lived with her family in a remote area of Vermont, on a small pastoral farm raising pigs, chickens and cows. A former city girl, she gradually learned to love the rural life - later regaling listeners with stories from the farm.

During her 70s, she traveled with tour groups to exotic places like China, Thailand, Mexico and Africa. Not typically adventurous, Joyce often told the tale of being rescued from the middle of a zip line, stranded over breathtaking elevations with panoramic views.

She is survived by daughter Julie Nelson and her husband Dave Eddy of Bethel, Vermont; daughter Joy O'Rourke and her husband Dan O'Rourke of Bozeman, Montana; and daughter Jennifer Nelson Arsenault and husband Blaise Arsenault of Bozeman, Montana. Joyce will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Hilary O'Rourke, Daniel O'Rourke, Felix Arsenault and Olive Arsenault.

Graveside visits can be made in the Dublin Cemetery after July 28, 2018, in Dublin, New Hampshire. At her request, a cerebration of her life will be held privately for close friends and family.

Memorial donations to celebrate her love for the many Scott Farrar caregivers can be made to the Jennie Scott Legacy Fund at Scott Farrar, 11 Elm Street, Peterborough, NH 03458 or to honor her many hours of community service to Monadnock Hospital at 452 Old Street Road, Peterborough, NH 03458.

Dear Joyce's family... I met Joyce in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada in the weaving shed with my cousin. We became friends and travelled with her and John to Thailand. In turn they came to visit us in Nova Scotia and later in New Brunswick, Canada. My husband and I were very fond of them. We are so sorry for your loss.
