Marilyn Mitchell

New Ipswich, NH - Surrounded by her children, Marilyn (Putnam-Lindstrom) Mitchell, 87, died peacefully on December 14, 2024. The sixth of seven siblings, she was born in New Ipswich, NH to Gerald and Bertha (Maxwell) Putnam and spent her childhood in the Putnam Homestead on Ashby Road. She attended Appleton Academy where she was a cheerleader and played girls basketball. She married Charles Lindstrom and bore five children, later raising them as a single mother. She was a member of the New Ipswich Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. She was blessed with the unbreakable, lifelong friendships of Hazel Cotzin, Vera Stacy, Kathy Allen and Jean Randle, also of New Ipswich. The Lord later blessed Marilyn with her dear husband of 30 years, Donald Mitchell, who predeceased her in 2009. A woman of great inner strength and enduring spirit, Marilyn survived several catastrophic illnesses throughout her life. She is on record at Monadnock Community Hospital as the only person to leave hospice alive, having miraculously recovered from an incurable cancer in 1990. She is survived by her children Debbie (Lindstrom) Young, Darren Lindstrom and his wife Susan, Sharon Lindstrom, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Into Eternity, Marilyn joins her husband Don, two of her children, Janet (Lindstrom) Higgins and David Lindstrom, sons-in-law Brian Higgins and Donald Young, her siblings Geraldine, Bert, Mabel, Wally, Shirley and Richard, and her beloved dogs Nikki, Misty and Katie. A graveside service will be held in the Spring of 2025.
