Michael King Obituary

DUBLIN -- Michael Bowie King, 82, died peacefully Sunday November 20, 2016, surrounded by his three sons after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Binghamton, New York, on June 7, 1934 to William Clarence King and Eleanor Bowie King, he was raised in Marshfield Hills, Massachusetts. Michael was a loving father, husband, teacher, mentor and friend. A graduate of Vermont Academy '53, and Dartmouth College '57, he also received a Master's of Fine Arts at Boston University after studying at the American Academy of Art in Rome, Italy. After retiring from Brooks, he moved to Dublin and became active in the campaign to restore the historic Park Theater in Jaffrey. He was kind, generous, sensitive, loving and profoundly influential in the lives of generations of people, young and old. Michael is survived by his sons: Matthew Draper King and wife, Sara Russell, of Amherst, Massachusetts; Charles Carter Bowie King and wife, Regina King, of Ipswich, Massachusetts; and Stephen Whittin King and wife, Ashley King, also of Ipswich; 9 grandchildren, his sister, Sheila Giles King, of Dublin; his brother, Ward King, of Middleboro, Massachusetts and his former wife, Rebecca Draper King, of Greenfield, Massachusetts memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday December 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church of Boxford, 173B Washington Street, West Boxford, Massachusetts with a reception to follow. Just a magnificent man - he was very influential to me during my time at Brooks ('78). He taught me to see, to follow my passions, to create with abandon yet have the discipline to see with clarity. He was kind and patient, and just a very compassionate man.

My condolences to the family on your loss. It's times like these when the loving promises of our heavenly Father can bring us comfort and can soften some of the pain we feel in our hearts. (1 Thessalonians 4:13,14) Pray to God, he will strengthen you and give you peace.

RIP Mike, friend forever, roommate on the Hill, always on time with Parents Magazine expense accounts, sterling competitor in our famous Dartmouth vs, the Ivy League golf matches at TCC, bon vivant at sky trips with Sheila at Dexters Inn near Mt Sunapee, movie expert at Dublin Lake Club, so many special times together often with Bert Whittemore. I miss you Mike.
