Patricia Dennehy Obituary

Patricia Morris Dennehy

Peterborough NH - Patricia Morris Dennehy, aged 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in Peterborough, New Hampshire, after a long illness. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Pat was born on December 16, 1934, to John Harold and Emma Louise Morris and grew up in Lowell, MA. She earned a bachelor's degree from Simmons College and later obtained her master's degree in education at Fitchburg State College (now University). After graduating from college, Pat married her husband, Ray, in February 1959. The newlyweds lived in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston and then moved to Westwood, where they had two of their three children. Then they moved to Ashburnham, Massachusetts, where both were active members of the community for many years.

Pat was a highly regarded realtor with Foster-Healey Real Estate for nearly 40 years. She was a strong proponent of ethics and education, earning professional designations as a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), a Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB), and Graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI) all through the Realtor organization. She enjoyed selling real estate and helping people buy and sell houses. Pat served on state leadership and ethics boards throughout her career and was a mentor to many new realtors.

Pat was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed spending many summers on Cape Cod. Pat was a longtime member of the Oak Hill Country Club, the Souhegan Country Club, the Naukeag Lake Club, and the Fay Club, where she enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and bridge. She looked forward to the annual Tennis and Badminton tournaments in the Town of Ashburnham. Pat gravitated to the friendships, camaraderie, and enjoyment that these activities provided. She loved being with her friends, loved a good joke, and had a quick wit. She enjoyed life and loved to entertain and be entertained. Pat was forever gracious, and her welcoming smile was known by friends and family alike.

Throughout her life, Pat enjoyed traveling all over the world with her husband and family. They visited family and friends in Europe, the Middle East, and all over the United States. At 82 years old she travelled solo to India to visit her son who was serving in New Delhi as a U.S. diplomat there. She instilled in her family the love of traveling. Pat loved seeing new places and experiencing new cultures.

Pat was passionate about the community she lived in and was supportive of many causes in town. She was an Election Warden for the Town of Ashburnham for many years and served for 10 years as an elected member of the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School Committee. She was involved in both the Girl Scouts as a troop leader and the Boy Scouts as a troop committee member. Pat was an ardent supporter of both Scouting organizations and a proud mother of both her sons who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Since moving to Ashburnham in 1964, Pat was a devoted member of St. Denis Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister for many years and taught first grade CCD. She was also a member of the St. Denis Guild, a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Pat moved to RiverMead Lifecare Community in Peterborough, New Hampshire, in 2018. She quickly established herself in that community, where she leaves many friends, including residents and employees who will miss her dearly. Pat's family is indebted to RiverMead for her care and support in the later years of her life. Pat is survived by her children, Raymond (Christina) of Princeton, MA, Jonathan (Mary-Catherine) of Washington, D.C./Ashburnham, MA and Elisabeth Dennehy (William Rogers) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and her two grandsons, Raymond A. Dennehy IV and Seamus J. Dennehy. A sister, Donna Cogburn, lives in Florida.

Pat was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Raymond A. Dennehy Jr., and her sister, Barbara Pomeroy.

A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 12, at 11:00 at St. Denis Church in Ashburnham, MA. Calling hours will be on Monday, November 11, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., in Fitchburg.

Pat used to share with me how, for her birthday, her Mother put out a small christmas tree with little boxes for her friends to open when they came to her birthday party. She loved that memory.

I was very sorry to hear of Pat's passing. My name is Nicole and I was a homehealth LNA at Rivermead. I left Rivermead in 2021, but visited Pat as often as I could. I followed her from her apt (where we used to have lots of laughs, I'd do crafts and make decorations for her door, and she would "supervise")
Then when she was in assisted living I'd visit and sometimes I joined her for exercise class. When she moved upstairs she still couldn't shake me. Sometimes she didn't know me, but we still had a ton of fun. I have a funny video of her singing John Jacob Jingle irishment..I gave her 3 little birds dressed in green for St. Patrick's day...the year before that a tee shirt that said "Wee Little Hooligan". Numerous little tokens when I worked at Rivermead and after. I was planning on visiting her before thanksgiving..I had another bird for her. I could never give her as precious of a gift as she gave me, her friendship and her advice. I lost my mother and I adopted Pat as my Mom. She told me to always choose laughter. Choose happiness over sadness. I loved her and I am so heartbroken that she is gone, but she will never, ever be forgotten.

Truly a precious soul..and SO FUNNY!
