Richard Weeks Obituary

DAILEY, WV - Richard George Weeks III, 29, of Dailey, WV, died unexpectedly in his home on September 6, 2013.

He was born to Richard and Jacqueline Weeks on December 26, 1983 in Powell, WY, though much of his childhood was spent in Peterborough and then Buckhannon, WV.

Rich graduated from Buckhannon High School in 2002 and then began studying at West Virginia Wesleyan College. He had made the decision to join the Army Reserves after 9/11, and was soon called to active duty. His military police unit was sent to Kuwait, and then Iraq where he served as a gunner. Rich served his country for eight years in the Reserves, including assignments in Germany, Egypt and Central America. Other occupations included working as a corrections officer at Huttonsville Correctional Center and working with troubled youth through Home Base, Inc.

Rich was married last June to Laura Ann Weeks (Guthrie) who is expecting their son Riley in October, and is survived by his daughter Shelby Layne Peck. Rich is also survived by his grandmother Shirley Mitroff; his sisters Alexandra Elan Hoffman (Weeks) of Pleasant Valley, NY; Jennefer Patrice Meyer (Weeks) of Woodbury, MN; and Rachel Renee Weeks of St. Paul, MN. His sister Miranda Smith Weeks preceded him in death.

Rich will be remembered for his sense of humor and wit, and his unwavering support of others in need. Rich's last gift was that of organ donation.

A Memorial will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 at Wesley Chapel on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College. In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts may be made to help Laura Weeks with expenses.
