William Chevalier Obituary

PETERBOROUGH – William "Bill" James Chevalier, 80, of Peterborough died after a long illness at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester on July 2, 2016. Bill was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on January 18, 1936 as the son of Charles and Isabel (Martin) Chevalier.

Bill Chevalier served in the Army during the Korean War era as a Nike Missile Technician. He held a Masters Degree in Physics from Brown University and a MBA from the University of New Hampshire. He worked for NASA as a physicist on the Lunar Lander for the Apollo 11, and worked for the Department of Defense for 29 years, retiring as an Operations Research Analyst. Bill has been a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, was involved with the local VFW, and a very active member of the Catholic Church. He always loved the outdoors whether it was hiking, camping or stargazing. He was active in sports, and loved to tell stories. He had a very strong sense of family and community duty.

In addition to his loving wife of more than 50 years, Virginia (Jette) Chevalier, Bill is survived by his children; William, Karen, Michele, Michael, Timothy, and Kevin, and by his grandchildren; Michael, Nicole, Michaela, Sarah, Ethan, Constantina, Sophia, Alexandros, Sienna, Hannah, James, Carys, and Anderson. He is also survived by his brothers Charles, Paul, David, and Brian, by his sister Isabel, and finally, by nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Mass and Catholic Burial were celebrated with family on Thursday July 7, 2016 at Divine Mercy Parish, 12 Church Street, Peterborough. Monsignor Gerald Belanger was the Celebrant. Burial immediately followed in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery with military honors provided by the Army and by the local VFW. Bill was a great friend and mentor to me in my young adult years. I had lost touch with Bill and his wonderful family over the years. Bill was a great father, friend, and just a good man who shared his positive attitude toward life with everyone around him.

My heart was so saddened when I learned of Bill's passing this week. I have such fond memories of my old neighbors' growing-up on Lobacki Drive; especially with my friend Michelle! Bill was always such a sweet and gentle man, and his way was reflected in all that he did. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you ~ Much love, Carrie O'Rourke-Glaude
