"Tillie" Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 15, 2014.
Tillie (Matilda Elizabeth) Brown
July 8, 1926 - May 12, 2014 (87 years)

Tillie will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Shirley Diane Gingras and Joyce Gayle Young; her grandchildren Jacqui and Kelly, Suzanne and Mark, and Robére and Michele; the father of her grandchildren, Leon Gingras; her great grandchildren Luke, Evyn, Caitlin, Lewis, and Oliver; and her multitude of nieces and nephews, including her very close niece, Marilyn Brown.

She was predeceased by husband Bud, her son-in-law, Cyril Young, her brothers Arthur, Edward, George, Charlie, Bill, Robert, Albert and her sisters Mary, Lena, and Frieda.

Tillie was born near Veregin, SK and made her way to Kelowna in 1952. Tillie graduated from UBC with a BEd in 1975 and taught Grade One for thirty-one years in Kelowna and Kitwanga, BC. She spoke fondly of her students and considered it an honour to be their teacher.

Tillie was the people's Grandma. Her home was always open for a warm welcome and baked treats. She loved the comfort of prayer and being at peace with God. Every week in her later years she hosted Scrabble and cards with her close friends. She loved to travel and spend time at the cabin on the Shuswap.

Her passing will leave a big empty space in our lives, but we are comforted by the rich memories we all have of her and by her words, "I have left this earthly existence and have gone into mansions of eternal life. I am at peace with Our Father and have no pain. Be happy for me."

A celebration of Tillie's life will be held on May 27 at 11:00 am at the Mission Creek Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC. A light lunch will be served following the ceremony.?

A generous thank you to all the medical professionals for the care they provided to Tillie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tillie's name to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 1589 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5Y7.

Condolences may be sent to the family through www.valleyviewfuneralhome.com.

I knew Tillie for only a short year, but in that time I met an Angel. My life has been blessed with Tillie's stories, her warmth and generosity. She was a kind heart and a gentle soul who taught me how to keep on, keeping on. I know Tillie will be deeply missed by her family.
With fond memories I hold close to my heart.
God Bless.

Auntie Tillie was a kind and generous soul and I am most fortunate to have been in her life. She has opened her heart and her house to us and has taught us so much over the past few years. I am sad she is gone but I know wherever she is, she is playing Duroc and beating the pants off of all the angels. We will miss you dearly. Luv you forever.

Tillie let anyone join her extended family and we were no exception. I've missed my weekly visits with her when I'd mount her water bottles for her or help with some other minor household task. Annika begged to go with me to spend time with Tillie and inevitably she would give her a special treat that she had set aside for her.

Tillie a model for all of us in aging gracefully, with a full, robust social calendar.

I'm sure her passing has been terribly difficult for Joyce and Shirley who have our thoughts and good wishes.

She was a special lady and life on Rowcliffe Avenue won't be the same.

Tillie was a scrabble partner and always generous with sharing her home and garden for our tournaments. She was a keen and competitive player right to the end. Will miss her. Lynn tribe

So sorry to hear that Tillie has left us. Returning to the Heart of God from earth is a long trip but Tillie has traviled it well and has given much to others. I am glad I have met her. She was often in my thoughts and my memories of her are good ones. With me she left part of herself in the short time of our friendship. Shirley and family be happy for what she has give you all and that was her Love. R.I.P Tillie.

Gramma Brown's life lessons have stayed in my heart forever. Her comforting words and sense of our "reason on earth" have left a permanent mark on my heart. She was and will forever be "the people's gramma". I will miss her but the life lessons will say with me eternal. My thoughts are with the Gingras family.... Miss you all very much.

I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Brown, She taught me in grade one, I was the one that kept sneaking out of her class to walk home. I have fond memories of her. My thoughts are with her family, we were friends once upon a time with Shirley. Shelanne ( Mikkelsen) Flansburg,
