ENGLE, A. REED JR. - of Ocean City, passed away at his home on March 25, 2012. Reed was born in Pasadena, California on June 23 rd, 1919. He was the son of Alexander Reed Engle and Henrietta Treen McKnight. Reed proudly served in the US army transportation Corp for 28 months during World War II. He was stationed in the US, England and France before being honorably discharged. Reed was employed by Provident Mutual Insurance Company for 42 years and retired as Vice-President of Mortgage, loans and Real Estate in 1979. Reed was a member of The Mortgage Bankers Assoc-iation, President of Marple Newtown Boosters Club and Pennsylvania Director of Babe Ruth Baseball. Reed moved from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to Ocean City in 1988 with his wife of 58 years, Alice Pickell Engle. Reed is predeceased in death by his beloved wife Alice and brother David Howard Engle. Reed will be dearly missed by his family which includes three children Ralph Thomas Engle (Martha) of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Reed Laurence Engle (Dolores) of Savannah, Georgia and Judith A. Engle of Ocean City and his sister Ruth Shirley Louderback of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania. Additionally, he has seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren who loved their Pop-pop and visiting him at the shore for milkshakes and sticky buns. A Service of Memory and Love will be offered Saturday morning at half past ten o'clock from The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ where friends may call from ten o'clock until the time of service. Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ. The family suggests those who desire send memorial contributions to Patriot Paws Service Dogs, 254 Ranch Trail, Rockwall, TX 75032. I am so sorry for your loss..I took care of Alice at Wesley Manor and was amazed at the love the two shared, and now they are reunited in heaven! He inspired me in so many ways..RIP Reed, I know you and Alice are smiling down on us all.
