Mrs. A. Louise Joy, 77, of Frederick, died suddenly Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born July 24, 1932 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles William Sr. and Frances Selway Peddicord. She was the wife of James R. Joy Jr., her husband of 54 years. Mrs. Joy graduated from Mt. Airy High School and then completed numerous correspondence medical courses. She was formerly employed as the Yellow Springs school cafeteria manager while her children were in elementary school, then at Frederick Memorial Hospital as a cardiology technician and later for Drs. B.O. Thomas Jr. and James Stoner. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 11, and the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 3285, all of Frederick. She was an avid golfer, playing in the Glade Valley Ladies 9 hole and 18 hole golf leagues and also enjoyed bingo, gardening, traveling, helping people and being with her family and especially showering love and affection on her grandchildren. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Barbara J. Clark and husband Jeffrey A. Sr. of Frederick; 3 sons, Michael J. Joy and wife Barbara of Myersville; James R. Joy III and wife Donna and Robert Dennis Joy and wife Rachel, all of Frederick; 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Clark Jr., Justin A. Clark, Stephanie Lynn Joy, Lauren E. Joy, Shannon E. Joy and Sarah K. Joy; a sister, Marjorie Phelps of Unionville and a brother, Thomas Peddicord of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley E. Joy; sisters, Doris Roberts and Rita Peddicord and brothers, Charles Jr., Richard and Ralph Peddicord. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 1 at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Libertytown, with Rev. Fr. Richard Gray, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, November 30 where a Christian wake service will be held 8:45 p.m. Monday.
