Aaron Feis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2018.
Aaron Feis died February 14, 2018 in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. He was 37.

Aaron was the Douglas junior varsity football coach for eight years, according to the team's website.

"He selflessly shielded students from the shooter," the football team's Twitter announced. "He died a hero, and he will forever be in our hearts and memories."

The Miami Herald quoted Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, whose sons played on the team Aaron coached: "The kids in this community loved him. They adored him. He was a phenomenal man."

Douglas football coach Willis May told the Sun-Sentinel: "Just a good man."

The Herald reports that sports fans online have asked ESPN to recognize both Chris Hixon and fellow coach Aaron Feis, who also died at Douglas, as recipients of the 2018 Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

Legacy mourns all those who died at Stoneman Douglas.

It's been three years since Aaron left this world to be with our Father in heaven. He was always smiling, joking, and laughing. We used to spend our summers playing together, riding bikes, spending the night in a tent out in my Aunt's backyard. Aaron was pretty much my lifelong best friend. He did something very heroic and selfless. I am very proud of him. Aaron, I love you, I miss you and I'll see you soon.

Dear family of Aaron,

I did not know him personally but like many others learned of his incredible sacrifice on the news. His heroic acts will not be forgotten nor will your cherished memories of him. It is still an immense tragedy that you lost him in that incident. Please take courage and may the God who gives hope fill you with all joy and peace by your trusting in him- Romans 15:13.

Hello, Aaron. I heard what had happened. I am deeply saddened by this, but you died as a hero. You ran TOWARDS danger, and not away from it. You knew that you may die from the wounds, but despite that, you took that chance, and saved lives. We will all miss you.

It's a horrible thing to lose a loved one in death. Especially when it seems so senseless. Please know that you are not alone in your feelings. Even our Heavenly Father is feeling the pain. May he be a constant part of your daily routine, through heartfelt prayer, he is ready and willing to listen. May the constant love of our caring God, your family, and friends help to soften your sadness. Please know that you are in our prayers.

What can I say to console the hearts of the Feis Family and community for the loss of your beloved Aaron. May you meditate on two definite promises God as Isaiah 57:15 emphasize that HE will be with you, the lowly in spirit, and will revive your broken hearts and crushed spirits. And the second is this, that HE can bring Aaron back, so that she may be enlightened with the light of life, for you to embrace again. (Job 33:30). May you accept HIS consoling words to bring you strength, hope and peace as HE calms yours hearts during this time of grief.

When one falls asleep in death it affects many. Aaron's life affected many. He gave his life for his students because he loved them. May his family and friends fell the love from those of us who care too. May you lean on our heavenly father for support and guidance. Lean on him and he will listen and answer your prayers.

I had the privilege of knowing Aaron when we were kids. He lived for a time in my neighborhood on Long Island and we spent a lot of time together over a couple summers. It doesn't surprise me that he grew up to be a great person because he always was. My sadness over this tragedy was compounded when I realized who this hero was. Rest in peace my friend.

To the family,
My deepest condolences in the passing of Aaron. He died protecting students from gunfire. His heroism will not go unnoticed by God. Notice what Hebrews 6:10 says, "For God is not unrighteous so as to forget your work and the love you showed......" Yes God takes notice of righteous works. Aaron will receive life in paradise: You will be with me in Paradise. (Luke 23:43)

I only know of you through this tragedy. My heart goes out to you, your family, and your friends. May you rest Peacefully at God's side now, and may your families & friends receive the Blessing of peace and strength to get through this, the most difficult time in their lives right now, knowing that in the days and weeks ahead, although much too difficult to see now, the pain will always be there, but life will get a little bit easier for them, with support, and most of all, with love. I'm so sorry this had to happen to all of you. These are my own personal thoughts and words from my heart, and I will be placing my words on each of the pages of the 17 lives that were lost.
Rest Peacefully, Aaron.

Coach Feis! I have so many fond memories of not only high school with you but my student teaching tenure. You were always the man I begged to let me in when I was late. You say with a tiny smile asking me if I was ever going to decide to come on time. I watched as you coached our team. As I grew older and returned to the nest I remember meeting you at 7-11 and you jokingly said now don't tell anyone I'm here I should have been to work 10 minutes ago. RIP

I am SO SORRY for the loss of such a brave, beautiful soul.....I work with BSO Fire Rescue and some of us were discussing how incredible Aaron was to do what he did. I suggested he be given the equivalent of a firemans or policemans funeral . I also thought he should have our Black Pearl Pipes and Drums band play at his funeral. Bagpipes are reserved for the bravest warriors since the old time back in Ireland and even further back in Rome. The leader of that band Chief Mike Nugent said that they have to be requested by an immediate family member in order to play . Please call the main BSO number 954-831-8900 and ask for him and request them to play. And please post the funeral arrangements for Aaron if possible, as many of us want to attend to show our respect for such a human being.....❤❤❤
