Abraham Grant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2010.
Abraham Grant Jr.
Stole away to be with the Lord on Nov. 26, 2010. Abraham was born Aug. 26, 1926 in Forkland, Ala., to the late Ella (Weston) Grant and Abraham Grant Sr. This loving, caring, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend found the Lord at an early age. Abraham served faithfully over 50 years as a member of Jerusalem, later Mt. Olive Baptist Church, as a member and deacon before moving to Logos Baptist Assembly where he continued as deacon emeritus. Abraham worked and retired from Republic Steel Corp. after 35 years of service. Abraham was a quiet man of few words but big presence, great strength of character, and integrity; he was respected by all for these values. Abraham set the standard for what exemplifies a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Family always came first, there were no limits when it came to taking care of home. No man had a greater love than what he had for his wife of 63 years. Abraham was a great cook. Even during his employment years he would come home and cook his favorites for weekly meals, Sunday dinners and summer cookouts. Abraham's passion was the Cleveland Indians. Win or lose you would find him glued to the TV for the entire baseball season with a break to watch "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy". Abraham opened the doors of his home to many who found themselves on hard times. What a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Abraham was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Abraham Grant Sr.; brother, Lee Grant; and special cousin, Jesse Grant. Abraham leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy, his wife of 63 years, Ora Grant; six children, Abraham Grant III (Yvonne) of Canton, Ohio, Patricia Grant of Novelty, Ohio, Gary Grant of Canton, Ohio, Rita Royer of Canton, Ohio, Michael Grant (Kim) of Canton Ohio; and the grandson he raised as a son, Edward (Kris) Dykes (Crystal) of Canton, Ohio; special daughter, Kaleen Wheat-Lemon (George) of Massillon, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Edward (Kris) Dykes (Crystal), Dawnasa Royer Brown (Tony), Sherry Massey, Abraham Grant IV, Jori Tonada Lewis, Iman Grant, Michael Grant II, Gary Grant Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; very special great-grandchildren, Drew Dykes, TieShera Dykes, Kristasia Dykes, Heaven Dykes, D'Erica Anthony, Blessing Watts; one great-great-grandson; three brothers, Ezra Grant of Forkland, Ala., Novel Grant, Cleo Grant (Laura), all of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Fannie Law (William) of Chicago, Ill., Annie Jackson of Canton, Ohio, Henrietta White of Forkland, Ala., Ora Cherry of Las Vegas, Nev.; special brother-in-law, Bazzel Spencer (Liz) of Canton, Ohio; special nephew, Willie Grant of Canton, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We will cherish the special memories of this special man in our hearts and minds forever.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 821 O'Jays Pkwy. N.E., Canton, OH 44705, with Pastor C.A. Richmond officiating. Interment will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. in the church. The Reed Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Grant Family, please accept our condolences on the loss of your love one and you are in our thoughts and prayers.
He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces.--Isaiah 25:8
"They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat … and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

"He Himself has said,
I will not in any way fail you
nor give you up
nor leave you without support."
Hebrews 13:5
May your troubled heart
find peace and comfort in the knowledge
that you are never alone.
May God's presence ease
your trembling spirit and give you rest.
He knows how you feel.
He is ever aware of your circumstances
and ready to be your strength,
your grace, and your peace.
He is there to cast sunlight
into all of your darkened shadows,
to send encouragement through the love
of friends and family, and
to replace your weariness with new hope.

God is your stronghold,
and with Him as your guide,
you need never be afraid.
No circumstances can block His love.
No grief is too hard for Him to bear.
No task is too difficult
for Him to complete.
When what you are feeling
is simply too deep for words
and nothing anyone does or says
can provide you with the relief you need,
God understands.
He is your provider --
today, tomorrow, and always.
And He loves you.
Cast all of your cares on Him...
and believe.
